Deputy facing dogfighting allegations arrested in South Carolina
Deputy fired by Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office after arrest
CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, S.C. (WBTV) - A deputy in South Carolina was arrested Tuesday after he was allegedly involved in dogfighting.
The Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office said it was made aware of the allegations against Deputy Shane Gaskins on April 28.
State investigators from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Divisoin (SLED) reportedly searched Gaskins’ home and arrested him after that search. The charges he faced were not immediately clear.
Exact details surrounding the case were also not immediately clear.
Gaskins was fired by the sheriff’s office following his arrest.
“The Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office holds all deputies to the highest professional and ethical standards,” Sheriff Cambo Streater said. “When those standards are not upheld, appropriate and immediate action will be taken.”
Streater said his office would continue to “fully cooperate” with SLED throughout the investigation.
