‘Person had been deceased for quite a while’
STATESVILLE, N.C. (WBTV) - Skeletonized human remains were found by a potential homebuyer in Iredell County Wednesday night, according to officials.
The remains were reportedly found around 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 16, at a house along Newton Drive near Bristol Road in Statesville.

What we know
Someone interested in purchasing the property reportedly pulled over to inspect the house. When that person reached the backyard, they allegedly found the human remains and called 911.
Deputies said when they arrived, they found the skeletonized remains behind the home.
“From the appearance of the body, the person had been deceased for quite a while,” said Maj. Troy Miller with the sheriff’s office.

An autopsy and medical examination were scheduled for next week.
The identity of the body and the cause of death were unknown, as of this writing.
