CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - A busy Charlotte road is expected to be closed for hours Thursday due to a gas leak, according to officials.

The leak happened around 9 p.m. on Wednesday, April 23, along Rea Road between Colony and Providence Roads.

Piedmont Natural Gas said a third-party contractor struck and damaged an underground natural gas line.

About 12 hours after the line was hit, Piedmont advised that their crews had made the area “safe” and turned off natural gas.
