Elected official in Union County convicted of assault on a female
Lake Park council member was charged in December 2025
LAKE PARK, N.C. (WBTV) - A council member in Union County has been convicted of assault on a female after an incident in December.
Mark Richards has been a councilman in the village of Lake Park since his election in 2021. The Charlotte suburb of just over 3,000 population sits east of Indian Trail in Union County.
According to court records, Richards grabbed the arms of the victim and pushed her.
He was convicted in a trial by judge on April 10, and sentenced to 30 days in jail. That sentence was suspended for a 12-month period of unsupervised probation.
Richards was also ordered to pay a $203 fine and have no contact with the victim.
WBTV has confirmed that the victim was a contracted employee of the village, who declined to comment.
Richards had not yet returned requests for comment at time of publishing.
