CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Th Charlotte Chamber issued an "urgent call to action" to repeal House Bill 2 after the Charlotte City Council voted for a full repeal of the non-discrimination ordinance in a 7-2 vote Wednesday morning.

Chamber members said they were unsure if enough votes exist to repeal the bill.

"This morning the Charlotte City Council approved a full and clean repeal of their non-discrimination ordinance that led to the state's approval of HB2, a bill that has caused serious economic damage to our economy and to the perception of our state," Bob Morgan with the Charlotte Chamber said.

"If you support the repeal of HB2 now that Charlotte has acted as requested by the legislature, please call any members of the legislature that you know to ask them to support the repeal of HB2. All legislators can be reached at 919-733-4111," Morgan continued.

The Charlotte City Council voted for a full repeal of the bill during an emergency meeting that started at 9 a.m.

Charlotte Council members were notified Tuesday night of the council meeting regarding the non-discrimination ordinance. The council meeting follows a WBTV report that some in the North Carolina General Assembly are unwilling to vote for the HB2 repeal because council only repealed part of its ordinance.

The North Carolina General Assembly is meeting Wednesday to discuss a repeal of the bill.
