Survivor of triple shooting remembers victims

A Cabarrus County woman who survived a brutal attack that left her mother, sister, and friend dead is telling her story to WBTV.

Veronica Cox, 23, was home on Wednesday when detectives say Darryl Angelo Anderson came inside and shot her mother, Sharon Cox, several times.

Authorities say Anderson also shot Veronica's sister, Jessica Cox and her next door neighbor, Sheila Serrano. Detectives say each woman died in a different mobile home.

"I'm just in shock, about it all really," Veronica Cox said.

Family members say Jessica Cox and Anderson have three children together and investigators say it's not clear what prompted the triple shooting

Authorities say Sharon Cox, 52, was living with Jessica, 25, but Anderson shot her inside of Veronica's home.

"She (Sharon Cox) did everything for me. Now being without her, it's going to be kind of rough. I have to do everything on my own now," Cox said.

Friday night, Anderson was behind bars with no bond. Anderson had a video conference with a judge Friday and is seeking a court appointed lawyer.

Court documents reveal that once Veronica Cox learned her mother was shot, she ran from her bedroom to call 911.

She told investigators she then saw Anderson stand over Sharon Cox with a gun as he shot two times. According to the warrant, he then pointed the gun at Veronica's face and said "Get out of my way!"

Serrano was a friend of the Cox family and a neighbor. Authorities on Friday said it wasn't clear why Serrano, 45, was shot. Her husband told WBTV his wife was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

"I'll miss her," Joaquin Serrano said.

Not everything is spelled out in the search warrant, including the order of events.

Anderson is scheduled to go back to court March 6th. His grandmother spoke by phone. She said she does not know what got into her grandson. She hasn't spoken to Anderson since he was arrested.

Cox family members started a fundraising page to help both Veronica and Joaquin Serrano cover funeral costs. Find out more by clicking here.
