Good morning everyone. It's Christine Sperow. Today is Monday, August 27. It's a big day where more than a dozen school districts are starting school today! We're helping parents and students get out the door on time. For others, expect more traffic on the roads. Here's a breakdown of our coverage today. TEAM COVERAGE: Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools and 18 other school districts will start the new school year today. We have multiple reporter beginning live reports from many of those school districts including CMS, Gaston County Schools, Union County Public Schools, Rowan-Salisbury Schools and much more. Many schools will have enhanced security to start the new year, some students will start the year in brand new buildings. The traffic is going to be impacted with school buses on the roads. We're following where the traffic build ups are so you especially want to be watching in the 6 a.m. hour.
WEATHER: Current temperatures are in the high 60s and low 70s for some neighborhoods. The mercury is going up from here though! Meteorologist Al Conklin is breaking down what the temperatures will be at the bus stop or where you drop off your child. Plus, he's preparing you for what to expect when you pick up your child from school today.
ALERT CENTER: NEW information on some major headlines from over weekend. We're learning more about what happened inside the video game tournament in Jacksonville, Fla. Three people died and the shooter then took his own life. What else eyewitnesses say they heard and saw. Kristen Miranda is following those developments in the Alert Center.
Plans are coming together for the farewell to longtime Senator John McCain. He died of brain cancer at the age of 81. What his home state of Arizona and Washington, D.C. have planned.
