CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - A teenager who went missing while swimming in Mountain Island Lake in Gaston County Thursday night was found dead Friday during a search of the waters.
Swimmers were apparently in a cove off of Mountain Island Road near the Mount Holly Water Plant when one of the swimmers, identified as 19-year-old Jacob Ryan Turner of Mount Holly, didn't resurface.
Fire crews started a multi-agency search for Turner Thursday and resumed the search, reclassified as a recovery mission, on Friday.
The Charlotte Fire Department tweeted about the search around 8:40 Thursday night. The search operation was suspended around 10:30 due to the dangers of diving in the water late at night.
Around 12:45 p.m. Friday officials at the scene said Turner's body had been recovered. The officials did not reveal any further information.
The Mount Holly Police Department is leading the investigation.
