CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - The Charlotte Independence rallied late as forward Jorge Herrera scored a cracker of a goal in the 90th minute, but were topped 4-1 on Saturday night at Louisville City FC.
Midfielder Ilija Ilic notched the game-winning goal in the 72nd minute off a Brian Ownby earned penalty.
Louisville would finish out the half up by a Niall McCabe goal, and dominated the scoresheet in the second 45 minutes.
Midfielder Ilija Ilic converted a penalty giving Louisville a 2-0 lead just after halftime.
USL Golden Boot contender Cameron Lancaster added another goal for the home side in the 81st minute.
Louisville would round out the night with a George Davis IV goal to make it 4-0.
However, the Independence showed life in the 90th minute as team-leading goal scorer Jorge Herrera notched his ninth goal of the season in dramatic fashion.
Independence midfielder Kay Voser recorded his third assist in 2018.
