(WBTV) - With the Open Championship on the horizon, golfers competed in the final round of the John Deere Classic on Sunday in Silvis, Illinois.

Michael Kim won the tournament at 27 under par, while Gastonia native Harold Varner III finished in sixth place at eight under.

Varner's finish comes a week after he finished in fifth place at the Greenbrier last week.

Varner's best round came on Friday, when he shot a six-under-par 65.

Meanwhile, Kim blew past the field, winning the event by eight strokes.

However, it wasn't just Kim putting up low number. Only nine golfers finished the round above par. It's Kim's first ever win on the PGA Tour.

Next up, the golfers travel overseas for the Open Championship. Golf's third major of the season starts on Thursday morning.
