CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Hendrick Motorsports announced that Chad Knaus has signed on for two more years as Jimmie Johnson's crew chief.
Knaus' contract was set to end at the end of the 2018 season, but his new extension will take him through 2020 - expiring the same year as Johnson's contract.
Knaus and Johnson have worked together for the last 17 years, winning 7 championships and over 80 races together.
The No. 48 team is still seeking their first win of the 2018 season and last saw victory lane in June of 2017.
However, Johnson does have two top-five finishes and six top-10 finishes this season and currently sits 12th in the standings.
The duo is chasing championship number eight, which would be the most ever for a driver in NASCAR's premiere series and would tie Dale Inman for most as a crew chief.
