Oldest living woman in NC lives in Charlotte, celebrates 112th birthday

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - On August 15, 1905, Hester Ford was born in Lancaster, SC. Tuesday marks her 112th birthday.

Through a check of available records, it's believed that Ford is the oldest living woman in North Carolina.

Through her life, she gave birth to 12 children. She's now the matriarch of a family that includes more than 53 grandchildren, 120 great-grandchildren, and 126 great-great-grandchildren.

On Saturday, family and friends will gather at a local park to celebrate her 112 years of life. While Ford won't be able to make it in person, her family plans to have a collage of pictures featuring all the years of her life and the family she's created.

WBTV interviewed Ford on her 111th birthday last year. Although she struggles with dementia and hearing loss, Ford has always been resolute in her faith and gives credit to God for her long life.

Even though many memories evade her, Ford was able to recite Psalm 23 word-for-word without missing a beat.
