Elementary school in Catawba County deemed safe after suspicious device found

CATAWBA COUNTY, NC (WBTV) - Claremont Elementary School was evacuated after a suspicious device was found Thursday morning, Claremont Police Chief Gary Bost says.

According to the school district, a "suspicious package" was found on the campus of Claremont Elementary School Thursday morning.

"To exercise caution, school was delayed. Any students that arrived to school were transported to a safe location," according to school officials.

After investigating, law enforcement deemed the school was safe and students and staff returned to the school around 10:15 a.m.

Claremont Elementary School, part of Catawba County Schools, is located on E Main Street in Claremont.
