Stolen Jeep tied to Rock Hill fatal hit-and-run found

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - A carjacked Jeep involved in a Rock Hill fatal hit-and-run was found abandoned in Charlotte, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said Wednesday.

The hit-and-run happened around 12:30 p.m. Saturday on Heckle Boulevard at Russell Street in Rock Hill.

According to Rock Hill police, a black Chrysler 300 ran a stop sign, struck a motorcycle in the intersection, and ran up an embankment before crashing into a wooded area. The motorcyclist, later identified as 21-year-old Joshua Moore of Rock Hill, was pronounced dead on scene.

Minutes later, the driver of the Chrysler carjacked a Jeep on Oates Street, police say.

The victim said the thief, described as a light-skinned black man in his 20s with curly hair, ran up to her while she was sitting in her 2000 white Jeep Cherokee Sport.

She told police he was screaming "they're gonna hurt me, they're gonna hurt me!" The victim said the man got into her car and drove off, as she barely made it out.

The man was last seen wearing a burgundy shirt, black pants and no shoes.

Anyone who spots the person wanted in the case is asked to call 911.
