Human remains found in burnt vehicle ID'd, case being investigated as homicide
BURKE COUNTY, NC (WBTV) - Deputies in Burke County have identified human remains that were found in a burnt vehicle Sunday morning. They are now investigating the incident as a homicide.
The Burke County Sheriff's Office said they were called to Canoe Creek Way in Morganton around 8:05 a.m. in reference to a burnt vehicle. Deputies found human remains inside the vehicle, a Cadillac Deville.
The Cadillac belongs to 35-year-old Albert Austin but is registered to 29-year-old Spencer Murray, both of Forest City, NC.
On Tuesday, investigators said the remains in the car were Albert Austin. They did not say how he is believed to have died.

There is a $1,000 reward being offered in the case.
The SBI is assisting in the investigation.
