Salvation Army reopens months after Pineville fire claimed life of firefighter

PINEVILLE, NC (WBTV) - Nearly three months after it was closed because of smoke damage, the Pineville Salvation Army Family Store is reopening Wednesday.

The Family Store is right next to the Edwin Watts gold shop that caught fire in April, causing damage to the other buildings and tragically claiming the life of volunteer firefighter Richard Sheltra.

"While we're able to move on and open the store, our thoughts and prayers are still with the family of Richard Sheltra," said Salvation Army Store Supervisor Kevin Brown. "We had to replace everything inside the store, but it's nothing compared to the loss of life."

The Store has been completely cleaned, restored and restocked and opens at 10 a.m. on Wednesday.

Money from sales at the Family Stores funds the Salvation Army's Adult Rehabilitation Center for chemically addicted men.
