CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - An armed robbery suspect was shot by police after he reportedly got into a standoff with SWAT Tuesday morning.

According to police, members of the Violent Criminal Apprehension Team were attempting to serve an arrest warrant on a suspect who was wanted for several armed robberies from businesses.

Around 7:51 a.m., detectives made contact with people inside an apartment at the McAlpine Terrace Apartments in southeast Charlotte. Officers said the man who they were attempting to arrest, later identified as 40-year-old Tyran Keenan Hudson, then pulled out a firearm.

"A SWAT officer perceived an imminent lethal threat and fired his weapon," police said in a statement Tuesday morning. "The suspect then retreated back inside the apartment."

That SWAT member was identified Tuesday evening as Detective Joseph Monteleone. He was placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure for any officer-involved shooting.

Additional members of the SWAT Team and negotiators were called to the scene and set up a perimeter around the apartment.

After a standoff with Hudson, the SWAT Team made entry in to the apartment and found him injured inside. Medic responded to the apartment and began treating Hudson, who was then transported to Carolinas Medical Center for treatment.

No officers or other people were injured in the incident, according to police.

"As is standard procedure with any officer involved shooting, the Internal Affairs Bureau will conduct a separate but parallel investigation to determine whether CMPD policies and procedures were adhered to during the course of the incident," police said in the statement. "Per department protocol, the officer will be placed on Administrative Leave which is standard procedure."

Hudson, officers said, will be charged in connection to at least nine armed robberies once he is released from the hospital.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 704-432-TIPS and speak directly to a Homicide Unit Detective.  Detective Koll is the lead detective assigned to the case.
