MATTHEWS, NC (WBTV) - A vacant house in Matthews was destroyed by an early morning fire.

Fire crews responded to the blaze on CPCC Lane and Campus Ridge Road Friday morning. That is right by CPCC's Matthews campus. Both CPCC Lane and Campus Ridge Road were closed as crews worked to battle the flames and investigate.

It appears that only the frame of the home remains. When firefighters arrived, they say flames were shooting from the house.

Fire officials say the house has been vacant for about 6 months. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
