Large sinkhole opens in parking lot of south Charlotte business

Drivers on a busy road in southeast Charlotte were told to expect delays Friday after a sinkhole opened up in a business parking lot.
Just after 1 p.m. officers were called to assist firefighters in parking lot of Pizza Hut on the 9600 block of Monroe Road, between Sardis Road North and Orchard Lake Drive. Police then began assisting motorists in the area.

Officials said the sinkhole is approximately 30 feet deep. From WBTV's Sky 3, the hole appeared to be about 10 feet wide.
Motorists in the area are asked to expect delays while crews worked at the scene. No possible timeline for repairs has been released.
