GASTON COUNTY, NC (WBTV) - A man was charged with first degree murder after a woman was found dead Thursday at the same home where someone was shot just two weeks before.
Gastonia police identified the woman Friday as 38-year-old Amoritta Starr Costner.
Eduardo Jorge Rojas was arrested in her death. He was the victim in the shooting that happened at the same home two weeks ago. Police say they found him at his mother's home on Friday. Just three days ago Rojas was arrested on a misdemeanor charge.
Costner's family tells WBTV Rojas and Costner were dating and lived together.
Early Thursday afternoon, Costner's body was found in the restroom of a home on the 1200 block of West 10th Avenue. Police said the homeowner found the body.
Investigators believe she died early Thursday morning. Gastonia police say she was stabbed multiple times and believe it is a domestic situation.
Costner's sister, Marissa Gidney, tells WBTV her sister was a mother and leaves behind a young boy and girl.
"I'm glad she had two kids so we can always have a piece of her," Gidney said.
"A couple of occasions, places she would go, things she was doing she would say, 'please don't tell my boyfriend. He'll beat me. He will kill me," Hodge said.
On April 16, Rojas was shot at the same home. Police arrested 62-year-old Robert Stauss and charged him with one count of assault with a deadly weapon, and one count of attempted first-degree murder.
Rojas was taken to Caromont Regional Medical Center with serious injuries after the shooting.
Police have not released a possible motive for that shooting or said how Rojas and Stauss knew each other.
Early Tuesday morning, Rojas was arrested for misdemeanor failure to comply. Gastonia Police officials did not say what the exact circumstances were surrounding that arrest.
