CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - WBTV News is the number one local television news source serving the Charlotte DMA, according to Nielsen LPM measurement for the February 2016 ratings period.

With news wins in the morning, noon, 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. time periods, the WBTV News team continued the surging momentum that began when WBTV News This Morning captured the top spot with Adults 25-54 years old back in July 2015.

WBTV News features Charlotte's most experienced group of local meteorologists on the WBTV First Alert Weather team, as well as one of the strongest local news teams in the country.

WBTV News Director Dennis Milligan has led the department for 15 years.

"It is really all about the viewer and fine-tuning our product to best serve them. It is not just what you see on television," Milligan said. "Some of our greatest improvements have come on our digital platforms. Our goal is to have the latest news available at our consumer's fingertips; no matter where they are, or what they are doing."

Vice President & General Manager Scott Dempsey was added to the WBTV leadership team in late 2015 following the promotion of Nick Simonette to Raycom Media Group Vice President.

"I could not be more proud of our team on this win," said Dempsey. "It was not achieved with gimmicks. It was the result of solid journalism, living the "On Your Side" brand mission, and serving our community on all of our platforms. We will continue to work hard to earn the trust of our viewers in each and every newscast."

WBTV also remains the number one local television station from sign-on to sign-off with its popular lineup of local, syndicated and CBS network programming.

WBTV was the first television station to sign on in the Carolinas in 1949. The station's history includes decades of technological innovation, news leadership and service to the community.
