A Gaston County man is charged with possessing a weapon of mass destruction.

Lincoln County sheriff's deputies went to a shooting call in the 500 block of South Highway 16 just before 2 p.m. Sunday.

Deputies heard several shots coming from a home nearby. Two men, including 24-year-old Drew Garrett Gantt of Stanley, were located. Deputies say the suspects were shooting a gun.

Deputies say they found empty shotgun shells and a sawed off shotgun with a 16 and a quarter-inch barrel. Officers seized the gun, which qualifies as a weapon of mass destruction.

Gantt was arrested in Denver and given a $9,000 secured bond.
