CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Dozens of Tar Heel fans piled into the Visulite Theatre in Charlotte Wednesday night to watch the basketball game played between Duke and UNC.

The Charlotte Carolina Club hosted the event so fans in the Charlotte area could come together to cheer on their team.

"I wanted to come because I knew there were gonna be a ton of alumni and there weren't going to be any Duke fans. That was one of the main reasons for sure," said UNC alum Karl Edinger.

Some fans said they wanted to watch the game at the theatre because of the atmosphere it would provide.

"It makes you feel like you're back in Chapel Hill," said UNC fan Jack Whitty.

The crowd was electric for much of the game. Fans erupted after many plays made by the UNC squad.

Unfortunately for the Tar Heel faithful, their basketball team lost to Duke in a nail biter. Duke won the game by a final score of 74-73.

Fans were visibly upset at the end of the game. Many began heading for the theatre doors as soon as the game went final.

"Let me tell you I have loved the Tar Heels since I was kid, so I don't care if they lose tonight, I still love this team," said Susan Moore, Co-chair of the Charlotte Carolina Club.

Proceeds from Wednesday's viewing party will go towards the Charlotte Carolina Club's scholarship fund.
