SAN FRANCISCO (WBTV) - Ron Rivera is just two days away from leading the Carolina Panthers to their first Super Bowl in 12 years. On the other side of the field, the Denver Broncos are led by coach Gary Kubiak.

The championship game will pit a defensive mind against an offensive one.

Rivera was an All-American linebacker at the University of California Berkeley and won a super bowl with the Chicago Bears in 1985.

It was with the Bears that he started his career as a coach, as well, in 1996.

He has since coached with the Philadelphia Eagles, the Bears again, before taking the defensive coordinator position with the San Diego Chargers.

He was hired as the Panthers head coach in 2011 and has led the team to three straight division titles and now the NFC Championship.

On the Broncos sideline is Gary Kubiak, who is in his second head coaching job.

His coaching career got started at Texas A & M after an eight-year stint as the backup quarterback to Denver Broncos legend John Elway.

Kubiak won his first Super Bowl as a quarterbacks coach for the San Francisco 49ers in 1994.

The next season he was named the Broncos offensive coordinator, where he helped lead Denver to two more Super Bowl titles.

He won two division titles as head coach of the Houston Texans, but was fired in 2013.

Kubiak was named head coach of the Broncos this season after a one-year stint with the Baltimore Ravens.

One interesting note about both of these coaches - they both replaced John Fox as head coach.
