Person injured, two businesses affected by east Charlotte fire

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - At least one person was seriously injured in a fire at an east Charlotte business Tuesday evening, according to officials.

The fire broke out around 8 p.m. in the basement of a shopping center on the 2500 block of The Plaza. Firefighters said the basement is shared by The Plaza Seafood and Grocery and Marvel International Beauty Salon, and that both businesses were affected.

Medic confirmed that one person was taken to Carolinas Medical Center with serious injuries, but didn not give further details.

That person's name and condition have not been released.

Investigators have not said what may have caused the fire.
