CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - A Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer was injured in a west Charlotte shooting and a suspect was fatally wounded, according to police.

Remount Road was blocked off at Wilkinson Boulevard Sunday night by police and SWAT.

CMPD says officers were serving a warrant for homicide at a home in the 2600 block of Watson Drive when they were shot at, Sunday. This happened around 9:00 p.m.

Officers returned fire and shot one of the suspects who was later pronounced dead on scene, police say.

One of the officers was reportedly hit in the ankle by the gunfire. The officer was taken to Carolinas Medical Center to be treated for his non-life threatening injuries.

With possible suspects inside the apartment, members of the SWAT Team and negotiators were called to the scene to talk to the barricaded suspects.

Police say the suspects later came out of the home and were being interviewed by investigators.

People who live in the area say police were not letting them get to their homes because of the blocked roads. The public was being asked to stay away from the area. However, Chief Kerr Putney says the public is not in any danger.
