KANNAPOLIS, NC (WBTV) - A man living in a detached garage in Kannapolis was seriously injured when the structure caught fire early Monday morning, officials say.

The call came in around 2 a.m. from Moose Road, involving multiple structures. The man in the garage, believed to be homeless, was airlifted to the burn center in Winston-Salem with severe burns, officials say.

Two other homes were impacted by the fire, mostly from the heat. The American Red Cross is assisting one family displaced due to loss of power. Fire officials say it took nearly 20 minutes to control the fire.

The man's identity has not been released.

Fire officials are working to determine what sparked the flames.

No other injuries were reported.
