SALISBURY, NC (WBTV) - A former high school teacher has pleaded guilty to having sex with students.
Matthew Belk was arrested in November of last year by investigators with the Rowan Sheriff's Office.
Belk met students at South Davidson High School in Denton, where he taught, and invited them to his home in Gold Hill.
Police say the incidents happened at Belk's home on Taylors Country Lane and began in May 2013. Police were able to identify two teenage victims who were students at the high school.
Officials say Belk resigned during the course of the investigation. Belk was served with 21 felony charges of sex offense with a student, but in Rowan County Superior Court last Thursday he pleaded guilty to two counts of sex offense with a student.
Belk was ordered to serve thirty days in jail. He can serve that sentence in two day increments until it is completed.
In addition, Belk was given two consecutive suspended sentences of 13-25 months, probation for 36 months, ordered to pay court costs, ordered to enroll in a sex offender treatment program, ordered to register as a sex offender for thirty years, and is not allowed on any school property for any reason.
