LONG VIEW, NC (WBTV) - Firefighters were working Monday to stabilize a structure after a fire at the Long View trucking company. Crews were working with heavy equipment to make sure it was safe for investigators to go inside.

Flames broke out in the truck maintenance area of Queen Transportation Company on 23rd Street, just off of Highway 70 Saturday morning. The fire has some workers' future up in the air.

"It's kind of got me worried,"  Worker Jonathan Clendenin said. "Having got to find out what we do Monday."

Fire officials say they got the call around 10:40 a.m. about an explosion and fire. When they arrived they say they saw flames coming from the multi-bay maintenance garage. Tools belonging to workers were destroyed.

"I have a toolbox full of tools and all the rest of the guys did. That's my job - day to day life," Clendenin said.

Joaquin Trejo says he was inside working at the time the fire started and says he heard three explosions. Smoke filled the area, luckily, all workers inside were able to escape. Officials said they're not sure what the explosions were.

"Scared a little bit," Trejo said. "I was lucky today."

One person was treated on scene for minor burn injuries.

Clendenin estimates mechanics each lost thousands of dollars in personal tools. Officials estimated the total damage at $1 million.

The fire marshal says an investigation is underway to determine what caused the fire. Officials were unable to go into the building because it was too hot and dangerous.
