Police: 1-year-old overdoses on hydrocodone and klonopin

TROUTMAN, NC (WBTV) - A baby was under overnight observation after getting a hold of pills from her mother's purse, according to Troutman police.

On September 5, Medic responded to Winterflake Drive after reports of an overdose. Officers say they found that Abishai Cox's daughter consumed a hydrocodone pill and 7 klonopin pills from her mother's purse.

Cox and her child were taken to Iredell Memorial Hospital.

According to reports, the baby was admitted for overnight observation and Iredell County's Department of Social Services was called to take custody of the child.

After an investigation, Troutman police arrested Abishai Cox and she was charged with felony child abuse by neglect, simple possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, and simple possession of a schedule IV controlled substance by getting the narcotics illegally.

Cox was being held under a $2,500 bond.
