Water main break blocks road in west Charlotte; House fire investigation underway in Matthews - LIVE updates on WBTV

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - A road in west Charlotte is closed following a water main break early this morning. The break was reported around 2:45 a.m. on Berryhill Road at Drum Street, just off of Freedom Drive.

Crews are working to fix the break and expect to have the roadway reopened by 11:30 a.m. One lane remains open so cars can get through.

Tuckaseegee Road can be used as an alternate. Ashton Pellom is LIVE at the scene and will have updates throughout the morning.

Marshall Park in Charlotte had a crowd full of people last night to remember the 8-year-old boy who collapsed and died at his football practice. It was O'Maury Chambers' first practice for his youth football league.

WBTV's Mark Davenport will show us how the community paid tribute to the little boy. We also found out O'Maury had a rare medical condition that contributed to his death.

Overnight there was a fire in Matthews that destroyed a vacant home on Matthews-Weddington Road. We have video from the scene. Fire investigators are working to determine what started the fire at the vacant home. They say the home is a total loss.

A pedestrian was struck on Highway 74 in Matthews early this morning. The person was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. No word on if the driver stopped.

TODAY: The man accused of causing the crash that killed a Charlotte family's two small sons will be in court today. Twenty-eight year old Matthew Deans will go before a Pender County judge this morning, 24 hours after he was indicted for two charges of involuntary manslaughter by a grand jury.

We'll have a report from where the court proceedings will take place, new in our 6:30 a.m. half hour.

I-77 toll lanes. One business owner is getting a lot of attention on Facebook for his plan to fight the toll lanes.

Joe Pfyffer owns a pub is right off the highway in Cornelius, and he's worried about how the toll lanes will affect his business. WBTV's Ashton Pellom has his story.
