STATESVILLE, NC (WBTV) - Two boys are dead and the alleged shooter reportedly tried to commit suicide in Statesville Sunday morning.
According to the Iredell County Sheriff's Office, the children, ages 3 and 4, were shot by their father around 3:30 a.m. on Trent Road. Then, they say, he turned the gun on himself.
Deputies say they received a domestic call from a man at 3:37 a.m. saying a man was intoxicated and firing a weapon. Deputies say they arrived at 3:43 a.m. to find Shawn Fuller outside of the front door suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Fuller was taken to Carolinas Medical Center in critical condition.
When deputies went into the home, they reportedly found the two young boys deceased. The boys, brothers, lived in that house with their parents.
The children's mother was being questioned by officials. Homicide detectives were there processing the scene.
Officials say the crime scene team will be working the case for several hours on Sunday.
