Goat causes traffic problems on I-85 during rush hour

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - A goat caused a bit of a scare for drivers Thursday when it ran across six lanes of the freeway during rush hour traffic.

The incident happened just before 5:30 p.m. on I-85 near the Mallard Creek Church Road exit.

Timothy Parsons, who caught some of the event on camera, was driving northbound when the goat crossed to the center of the interstate.

"He was dodging all kinds of traffic before the video started," Parsons told WBTV via Twitter. He said he thought the animal was a dog at first.

In the video, Animal Control officers can be seen trying to capture the goat before it jumps the concrete median, landing right in front of southbound drivers.

The animal then quickly dodges traffic, nearly getting struck twice, before ending up on the far side of the interstate near a sound barrier wall.

Traffic in front of Parsons then began to move again and the video stops, but not before Parsons can be heard encouraging the officers he's about to pass. "Good luck, gentleman."

WBTV has reached out to Animal Control and Highway Patrol for a statement, but have not yet heard back.
