Paris-bound flight goes off runway at Charlotte’s airport
CHARLOTTE, NC (Cleve R. Wootson Jr./The Charlotte Observer) - A plane headed to Paris from Charlotte left a 15-foot-long gash in a stretch of pavement at Charlotte-Douglas International Airport after its landing gear went off the runway, according to US Airways.
No one was injured in the incident, which happened about 7:30 p.m., shortly after the plane was set to depart, according to Alexis Coello, a spokeswoman for the airline.
Maintenance workers came out and assessed the airplane's left landing gear and determined the plane was OK to fly. It departed an hour late.
The gash in the pavement was three feet deep and 15 feet long.
Flight 786 was expected to land in Paris early Thursday.
