92-year-old marathon runner honored at Knights game

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - A Charlotte native who shocked the world and set a marathon record is getting special recognition here at home.

92-year-old Harriette Thompson threw out the first pitch at Sunday's Charlotte Knight's game at BB&T Ball Park.

Last week Thompson set a record for the fastest time for a woman over 90 during the Rock and Roll San Diego Marathon.

"I'm so thrilled that people are inspired. I didn't think I could inspire anybody. But, I had people run past me on the marathon and they say 'You're the reason I'm running,' and a lot of them are very young."

Thompson has run in San Diego's Rock and Roll Marathon 16 times.

She's raised more than $100,000 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and Team In Training.
