CATAWBA COUNTY, NC (WBTV) - Two brothers were shot in Catawba County after taking a hammer to a neighbor's car Wednesday evening, deputies say.

The incident, which officials are calling an "ongoing dispute," happened around 8 p.m. in the 4000 block of West Bandy Cross Road in Claremont.

The brothers, 32-year-old Alijah Daniel Jackson and 35-year-old Caleb Kavann Jackson, were allegedly using a hammer to damage 28-year-old Joshua Edward's car. That's when Edwards fired a rifle, striking each of the brothers in their "lower extremities," officials say.

The brothers were airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. Edwards was taken in to be questioned by officials. The magistrate found no probable cause to charge him for the shooting of the Jackson brothers.

Officials did not say the extent of the ongoing dispute but say the neighbors lived next door to each other. The brothers remain in serious condition.
