Lash tops out Fort Mill complex, highlighting York County growth
CHARLOTTE, NC (Ely Portillo/The Charlotte Observer) - Executives and local officials autographed a steel beam at Charlotte-based Lash Group's new Fort Mill headquarters complex Monday, as the company held a "topping-out" ceremony to celebrate placing the structure's highest beam.
The health care consulting company is relocating from its current offices off West Tyvola Road and plans for its new offices to be complete in a less than a year. The five-story, 250,000-square-foot building is a joint venture of Charlotte-based Childress Klein and Clear Springs Development Co.
"We needed to find a home that's more accommodating to our scale," said Lash Group President Tracy Foster. The company, a subsidiary of Amerisource Bergen, is moving 1,200 jobs from Charlotte to Fort Mill and plans to double in size to 2,400 employees in the coming years. LPL Financial, another Charlotte-based company, is building its new headquarters on the same site and moving more than 1,000 employees.
Foster said Lash Group looked outside the Charlotte region when considering where to move its headquarters, but ultimately decided to stay in the area so it could retain its workforce.
"This is really a great opportunity for us to stay rooted," said Foster. The headquarters building is a $57.3 million project.
Local officials said Lash Group's headquarters is an indication that the area is emerging as a regional center distinct from Charlotte. If LPL and Lash Group meet their expansion goals, the companies will employ about 5,000 people on the site, which is across from the growing Kingsley mixed-use development.
"Our vision for the future of Fort Mill is not simply to be a bedroom community for Charlotte," said Fort Mill Mayor Danny Funderburk.
