Man charged in northeast Charlotte deadly shooting

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - A man is charged with murder in a northeast Charlotte that left one man dead on Wednesday.
Police charged 63-year-old David Benjamin McCullough in the shooting death of Brian Anthony Kappauf. Around 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, officers responded to an assault call in the 4400 block of Ridgevalley Drive where they found Kappauf suffering from a significant head wound.
Medic took Kappauf to Carolinas Medical Center in critical condition. He died on Wednesday from a gunshot wound, medical officials say.
Investigators say Kappauf and McCullough knew each other and were in an altercation before the shooting.
McCullough was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and firearm by felon. After Kappauf died, officers obtained an arrest warrant for murder. McCullough was arrested Thursday morning on the warrant.
Police say the investigation is ongoing.
