Report: Duo hid under table during robbery, fired shots after robbers left

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Two customers who hid under a table during an attempted robbery of a northeast Charlotte restaurant Sunday night were arrested after police say they shot at the business after the incident.
Anthony Washington Jr, 44, and Dontay Sowell, 27, were charged with discharging a firearm into occupied property and damage to property.
The events began at the Waffle House on the 100 block of Stetson Drive. Police say two men attempted to rob the restaurant at gunpoint. At one point, one of the robbers fired a single shot inside the building.
The would-be robbers then left the business without any money or property.
Washington and Sowell, who were eating at the Waffle House, hid under a table during the attempted robbery, according to the official report.
After the robbers left, police say, Washington and Sowell got into an SUV, then fired several shots at the restaurant, hitting the building and a vehicle.
A short time later the duo was pulled over and both were arrested.
Police are still looking for the men who tried to rob the business. Anyone with information is asked to call 911, or Crimestoppers at 704-334-1600.
