BESSEMER CITY, NC (WBTV) - One person was burned and three family pets were killed in a Gaston County house fire early Tuesday morning.

A family of four was sleeping when one family member woke up to a loud popping sound and a smoke alarm going off. That person says they opened the door and were confronted with a room of thick smoke and fire. The family member woke up others and they all evacuated the home, with one person being burned.

Police say three dogs and one cat died in the fire.

The flames broke out at a house on E Ohio Avenue in Bessemer City. Fire investigators say the fire was caused by equipment failure in the sunroom of the home and caused around $63,000 worth of damage.

The burned family member refused treatment from Medic.

Friends of the family say they lost everything in the fire and are trying to rebuild what they can. A GoFundMe page was set up for the family.
