CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - A man is charged with fatally shooting a woman in northeast Charlotte Wednesday night.

Paul Clark Williams, 55, was arrested and charged with murder in the killing of 44-year-old Jestine Anita Clyburn.

Police say they responded to a domestic related assault call just after 9 p.m. at a home on the 1200 block of Echo Glen Road.

When officials arrived at the scene, they found Clyburn suffering from an apparent gunshot wound and pronounced her dead on scene.

Williams was taken voluntarily to police headquarters to be interviewed by homicide detectives. After he was interviewed and evidence was gathered during the investigation, Williams was charged with first-degree murder. He was taken to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office where police say he will remain in custody.

Investigators believe Clyburn and Williams knew each other and that the shooting was a result of a domestic fight.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call 704-432-TIPS and speak to a homicide detective, or Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.

Williams is scheduled to appear in court Friday at 1 p.m.
