Mayor Clodfelter presides over first city council meeting
CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Newly appointed Charlotte Mayor Dan Clodfelter takes the reigns Monday night in his first official city council meeting.
Monday's agenda has several key votes on items including airport contracts and the Lynx Blue Line to the University area.
"There is a big learning curve for anyone who gets into these jobs," said UNC-Charlotte political science professor Eric Heberlig.
Clodfelter gave much of the same warning the night he was appointed, but city business does not wait. The agenda he presides over Monday is 137 pages long.

Even though those items are considered and approved under Clodfelter's watch, Heberlig cautions that there is always a city manager and staff working behind the scenes gathering information and making recommendations to council.
There are other city council members who vote, too. However, there's a deep divide among the super-majority of Democrats. Some of them wanted to see former council member James Mitchell appointed as mayor.
Heberlig says mending fences could depend on Clodfelter's own political track.
"If members of city council know he's likely to run for reelection, that gives them an incentive to play along with him because they know a mayor is likely to be re-elected," he said.
Clodfelter hasn't ruled out a run. It's still just his first week on the job.
