CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Since the last of the evidence bags were loaded into a van, family and friends have replaced police tape at the home of a family who last their 3-year-old to and accidental shooting Monday.
Police said the 3-year-old, named Anthony, died at Carolinas Medical Center after he was accidentally shot inside his home on Glasgow Road just before 1:30 p.m. on Sunday.
"I thought he was perfect since the day he was born," said Priscilla Logan, aunt of the 3-year-old.
Logan and other family members came to support Anthony's parents and sisters in a time of need.
"We're going to get through it as a family as a whole," said Logan. "As long as we continue to pray together and keep God on our side it's going to be alright."
Logan said what happened Sunday afternoon has taken the breath out of the family. She hopes the incident will make other parents keep their eyes out their children at all times.
"The message... keep and eye out on the kids," said Logan. "Just watching over the kids all the time that's basically what it is."
Outside of the home on Sunday, neighbors described the minutes after the boy was shot as chaotic.
"A girl from across the street came outside and she was just screaming," said Amanda Howell, who was visiting her mother on the street.
"I went back in the house and came back out and that's when the police and the paramedics and everything came down," she described.
Officers have not said how the child came to possess the gun.
"You expect your children to live a fulfilling live and 3-years-old that's not even beginning it," said another neighbor named Latoya Royster.
Detectives said no foul play is suspected in the incident. They say family members who were inside the home during the shooting are currently being interviewed.
