Police ID man found dead, on fire in the woods
GRANITE FALLS, NC (WBTV) - Investigators have identified a man who was found dead, on fire in a wooded area of Caldwell County on Monday.
According to the Caldwell County Sheriff's Office, deputies were called to a brush fire with a fatality along Dishman Place in Granite Falls around 1:17 p.m. on Monday.
Investigators say two men were in the woods working on deer stands. One of the men reportedly could not get in touch with 65-year-old Carroll Junior Jackson, said to be his brother-in-law, and went to look for him.
Officials told WBTV that the man saw a fire in the woods and realized it was Jackson. He put out the fire and Jackson was found dead.
It is not clear if his death was a result of the fire or other circumstances.
Foul play is not being considered a factor at this time and the investigation is pending on the medical examiner's report that will be forthcoming at a later date.
