Ghost Town fined after actor injured in "shootout" accident
MAGGIE VALLEY, N.C. (AP) - The North Carolina Labor Department is fining the Wild West theme park Ghost Town after an actor was injured during a staged shootout show earlier this year.
The Labor Department ordered a $2,000 fine Tuesday, saying the park failed to provide safe guns to workers.
Investigators said actors at the park were using three real .45-caliber revolvers and a real shotgun loaded with blanks for shows. The state suggested using guns capable of only firing blanks.
Labor investigators examined a complaint that gunfighter Robert Bradley was hit with shrapnel from a shotgun blast during a show July 6.
There was no answer Wednesday morning at a phone number listed for the park.
The park can pay the fine, asking for a conference with the labor department or dispute the fine.
