DAVIDSON, NC (WBTV) - A woman and her toddler son are in the hospital after being injured in a fatal wreck that took the life of her husband in Davidson, the North Carolina Highway Patrol says.

A Chevy Impala and an SUV collided on Mooresville Road Friday night, causing a piece of engine from one of the vehicles to crash through a window of a nearby home.

Troopers say the driver of the Chevy crossed the center line and crashed into the SUV head-on.

A 2-year-old was thrown from the SUV during the crash but remained in the car seat and is expected to be okay.

The driver of the Chevy, plus a passenger, were injured.

Officials say speed may have been a factor in the crash and told WBTV they believe charges will be filed.
