CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - US Airways says it has identified a small number of Dividend Miles accounts that may have been compromised in a data breach.
Customers that were affected are being notified as well as federal state and foreign agencies and law enforcement, according to a statement from US Airways.
US Airways is deactivating accounts that may have been compromised, and then working with customers to restore the accounts.
These accounts do not contain social security numbers. What has happened is that mileage numbers have been deducted from the accounts of a few customers.
Dividend Miles can be used for travel and other service discounts.
Customers who notice unauthorized account changes should contact the Dividend Miles service center at 1-800-428-4322.
US Airways is not releasing the number of accounts impacted.
US Airways does not know how long the information was exposed.
A notification will be posted on the US Airways Web site after the impacted customers are notified.
This breach is not related to a breach last month which involved a third party company and US Airways Employee W-2 forms.
