BB&T ballpark coming together, WBTV gets first look inside
CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - BB&T ballpark is shaping up nicely in the shadow of uptown's skyline. WBTV got a first, real look inside.
Ticket holder Shawn O'Donnell one of the lucky few to get a first look inside.
"It's about time we get some baseball here in Uptown Charlotte," he said.
At the top of his list? "Checking out the view from my seats," he admitted chuckling.
Even without all the bells and whistles, excitement was in the air. Former county commissioner Jennifer Roberts was happy to see it finally coming together.
"We're very excited," she exclaimed. "I can't wait for the first game."
Roberts and other city and county leaders worked tirelessly to ensure there WOULD be a ballpark in center city.
"The recession got in the way and some lawsuits," she said. "I'm just thankful to all the folks, who pitched in, and really helped make it happen. It was a team effort all the way."
An effort O'Donnell knows will pay off for more than just the Charlotte Knights.
"Anytime you can bring another sport uptown and bring more foot traffic by the stadium or anywhere else around the bars, shops, etc you're going to obviously draw more traffic and make it a more lively and vibrant city," he said.
The Knights say the ballpark will be ready in time for the start of the 2014 season, next April.
