CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - The Charlotte 49ers are just months away from their inaugural football game, but made a major announcement about their stadium on Tuesday.

Team officials announced they were naming the stadium after Panthers owner Jerry Richardson and will be called Jerry Richardson Stadium.

Richardson donated $10 million to the 49ers program.  During the press conference on Tuesday, he said that the mission was to create a culture of winning and becoming better.

He also created a football scholarship, named after his son.

Richardson received a 49ers football jersey with his name on it during the press conference.

The first 49ers football game will be played on August 31 against Campbell University.
