Patient data compromised in security breach at local practice
CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - A local doctor's office says records of nearly 10,000 patients may have been exposed in a computer system security breach.
Presbyterian Anesthesia Associates reported to the NC Attorney General's Office that E-Dreamz, Inc., who was holding the records, had an unauthorized person gain access to the server via a software vulnerability and stole a key enabling someone to decrypt and take patient payment information.
The company has since switched to a new server provider.
The records affected are being notified via a written message.
The breach was reported on May 8th.
The FBI is investigating.
